H-W Organic Farms

CSA Details

Please read carefully about  CSA

  • CSA Members get a tremendous amount of produce over the period of 20 weeks

  • CSA Members will start with a small amount of produce and as the season progresses you will have a lot of produce to be used up before the next weeks produce arrives.

  • H-W Organic Farms estimates approximately 380 pounds of produce for each share.

  • H-W Organic Farms highly recommends families learn how to "put away" produce for the winter by freezing, drying, canning, etc.

  • H-W Organic Farms believes juicing is also a good way to use excess produce.

  • CSA Members might have produce that they can’t use and we suggest that you give it away to a family member or a friend.

Explanation of Natural Methods Used at H W Organic Farm

We conscientiously use ecological, natural and sustainable growing methods. We are not certified organic anymore, but we still believe in growing that way.

Our members get to know us well and often become our friends. You can be assured we won’t spray harmful chemicals or use synthetic fertilizers on your food.

If you ever see us spraying something feel free to ask what it is. Perhaps it will be milk to combat powdery mildew. Or it might be compost tea to feed the plants and fight disease.

We replenish the soil for the following year with compost, organic materials and mulch. We fight several insects with hand picking. We will not use conventional farming methods (harmful pesticides and chemicals) because we don’t want to eat the produce ourselves and don’t want you to either.

Produce

The produce comprising each distribution will vary slightly from week to week and significantly from month to month.

Early harvest will mostly be salad material with successive weeks adding scallion, beets Asian greens.

Hopefully you will get a few of our famous early tomatoes in May! (Early tomatoes will be small in number but will pickup dramatically buy July and August.)

A little later in May there will be peas, Kohlrabi, and broccoli.

Then beans in summer and squash, cucumbers, peppers, hot, and sweet.

In the late summer and fall will have winter squash, melons, cabbage, potatoes, sweet corn, and a large amount of tomatoes.

There will also be blueberries, strawberries, peaches, and apples in small amount when in season.

More can be purchased at the farmer's market you do your pick-up at.
