CSA
Guidelines
CSA is a model that provides an economic and
social alternative to our conventional system of food
production, distribution, and
consumption.
With CSA, food
does not travel an average of 1500 miles from field to
table. It is eaten close to where it is grown. CSA
farmers grow food, not commodities. They grow for people
they know, not for distant markets.
CSA is a local institution. It provides fresh food that
is minimally processed and packaged. It provides people
with a renewed awareness of there natural environment as
well as the needs and abilities of local residents,
farmers and non-farmers alike.
CSA works to build
relationships based on shared responsibility and trust –
relationships that return culture to agriculture and that
attend to long-term sustainability of the bio region and
to our land.
H-W Farms CSA
(HWFCSA) is following the traditional CSA model of a
farmer and shareholders working together in the gardens
to grow healthy vegetables and get the to the members in
the freshest condition as possible. HWFCSA has a resident
farmers-Master Farmer who will perform most of the work
while also depending on the members to assist with jobs
that are just too time consuming to be handled alone.
Example of jobs that will need assistance: laying down
mulch in the spring, weeding, planting and picking when
crops come in heavy.
